Sustainable seaweed aquaculture
Project overview
Sunken Seaweed uses a 1/4-acre area of ocean at approximately 25 feet deep to outplant, cultivate, grow, harvest, and monitor native Southern California seaweed species, studying the viability of seaweed aquaculture in San Diego Bay. Results from the pilot project highlight the many benefits such as carbon sequestration, bioremediation, improved water quality, enhanced ecosystem productivity, and commercialization.
